Wide Atlantic Weird#DennisWheatley ‘s ‘They Used Dark Forces’ is a novel in which Hitler and the Nazis are unambiguously evil, yet Wheatley takes every opportunity to rehabilitate Mussolini (cleaned up his country, shame he got involved in the war) Franco (kept the communists out) and Goering (fine airman, proud German, fanatically anti-communist, not into anti-semitism).
In real life, the Nazis briefly considered installing Wheatley as a regime governor of North London in the event of a successful invasion of Britain.
