During my extremely unprofessional explorations of #GregorianChant, I learned a new word: #melisma.

> In singing, the term melisma refers to a passage of music that has a group of notes that are sung with just one syllable of text. This is the opposite of syllabic singing, which is singing one note per syllable.

@cambraca Whenever I think of that word, I think of Mariah Carey, who has been described as "melismatic"
@cambraca I'm assuming you know your lydian from your locrian ... 🤔

@necro_bemis sure! I just need to look them up every time 😉

Not that I've ever knowingly used them.

Did I mention I have no formal music training? *Everything* is new to me 🌈

@cambraca I have no formal training either. However, in my youth a guy scribbled these down for me and said, "Learn these." I now pass along this sacred knowledge to you. It will open up the fretboard for you in meaningful ways 🎶
@necro_bemis oooh I'll try these, thanks!
