I read through 70,000 words of Apple's privacy policy and associated guides so you don't have to.

Apple's advertising business has grown massively in recent years, with ads appearing in the App Store, News and Stocks apps. Part of this is its personalized advertising. Everything you do in the App Store is tracked, every tap of the screen and scroll of a page.

@mattburgess There's no way that a policy that long can actually result in informed consent as required by the GDPR.
@mattburgess I’m with Gruber on this one. Gruber: “That last point is the nut of it. It’s a nuanced argument, but I’ll go to the mat that the App Store’s financial success is the worst thing that’s happened to Apple this century. It’s a distraction at best, and a profound corruption at worst.”

@mattburgess

'Apple says....the “conversion rate” for advertisers is basically the same for personalized ads and contextual ads, it says.'

Shocking. Who would have thunk it.

@mattburgess Thanks for your heroic effort! I didn't see it in the article so wondered if you noticed what policy/terms/tracking applies when one uses MacOS (Spotlight) and/or iOS level (Search box) search? Obviously this is multi-facetted but the interesting one is what happens for SIri Knowledge (depending on your OS level)
@mattburgess This is why I subscribe to Wired. I didn't want to read that, but I'm so glad you did!
@Topofmyvoice haha it was a big effort—thank you for subscribing!
