Funky GibbonI noticed that there are more accounts coming over from the bird site that post lovely photos of #nature #archictecture #history etc but have brought with them the poor habit of posting without attribution of the original image. PLEASE let’s not let this go unchallenged. Ask them to include attribution, and consider not boosting or following until they do so. Pass it on! #fediverse
Jacosketching@gavfinfnq remind them you can edit posts here to fix it! That isn’t natural on the bird site so they probably don’t think about editing!
JamesHumbers (he/him)@gavfinfnq excellent idea. What’s best practice for sharing (or not) media that is already unattributed (I.e. shared on a platform by a random who didn’t attribute)? A short URL to the location?
@jameshumbers yeah that’s a poser but in this age of memes I guess posting source url is the next best thing. It’d be good to have the views of #photographers on this.

MsPraxis@gavfinfnq I agree this is important but I witnessed a lovely older women on Twitter be harrassed about this to the point where she nearly had a complete breakdown. One man targetted her relentessly. She left for a while then slowly came back, utterly terrified in case she forgot to attribute a picture. It was horrible to watch. No one ever thought they were her photos, just as an aside. She just liked posting pretty things.

JudeNungaYep, I saw that happen as well, it was disgusting. I've had people harass me about this as well, not realising that I was posting my own photos. It was really nasty.
My thoughts are, if you put a photo out on the internet, it becomes public property.
