@sparker @shlepcar When my father returned from WWII (U.S. Navy, Pacific), he could not take up his old life, and his family fell apart—he wound up divorcing his wife and she got custody of their daughter. (He eventually remarried, which is how I came along.)

He never talked about the war, or the years afterwards, but I feel this film does a wonderful job of exploring how difficult it was for returning vets (and still is). A+ film, one of my all time favorites.
