Migration from Twitter

So, I created my first fediverse account on November 5th, anticipating the Muskrat's imminent destruction of all that I still found valuable in twitter.

He has not disappointed me, alas.

On the 13th of January the 3rd party app API stopped working. So I can no longer avoid the Nazis, spam, and advertising by using Tweetbot.

I'm now conducting my final Twitter account archival sweep. I'm not deleting @cstross, but it's going into deep freeze (monthly pings only).

If I delete my twitter account some jackass can swipe my name. So not going there. If it stays inactive for too long it might be deleted anyway, so I'm going to tweet a single character once a month. And I'll also use it for commercial announcements—new books, convention appearances, and so on.

But as a social outlet, @cstross@twitter is now defunct. @cstross is my home now.

(I reserve the right to reconsider this policy once @elonmusk fucks the hell off.)

@cstross I have the same three letter name there as here, I don't really want to lose it there, I keep getting phishing emails trying to get the account from me, so I know if I delete it'll be snapped up quickly.
I have too many published conference things pointing to Twitter to let that happen.
I'm doing the same, occasional login and post something or reply to a DM. Here is home otherwise.
@Dtl @cstross Massive uptick in phishing emails and offers to buy my 4-char Twitter name too. Emails. Even texts to my personal phone number, which I’ve never published or associated with my account. I don’t get it. I hum along for 15+ years there with nothing, and suddenly it’s valuable as the platform turns toxic?
@stopdesign @Dtl @cstross #Twitter is draining the toxic swamp from other alt-right sites as they gather to the bird nest so username handles are quite valuable now over there.
