@anna_lillith We’re currently caring for a 2yo German shepherd while owners are on holiday. They did some research but wouldn’t have got a GS if they’d known more. She’s adorable but very hard work. Prospective dog owners, especially 1st timers, should have to pass an online course, the good & the not so good bits. I bet many who abandon dogs were too ignorant of the responsibilities involved.
@Susan60 yes, I agree that owners should be better educated and no more about there dogs. Great that you're taking care of the dog. I have a shepherd myself, she's fantastic but she needs clear communication and boundaries, especially when she was younger.
@anna_lillith Yes, very firm & clear, plus lots of cuddles, ball games etc on top of training. Would you believe neither of us have ever owned a dog? We’ve looked after my son’s Golden Retriever a few times for up to a week, which was much easier & a good introduction. And we had several days of training with the owners.
