Tonight's #DrewsPicks is Milt Jackson and John Coltrane's album Bags & Trane.

It was recorded January 15, 1959 at Atlantic Studios in New York City and released in 1961.

Milt Jackson — vibraphone
John Coltrane — tenor saxophone
Hank Jones — piano
Paul Chambers — bass
Connie Kay — drums

Paul Chambers is so slinky smooth. Just oozes style.

Not sure why but this album is catching the ears of the 8-year-old tonight unlike any other jazz I've played around the house.

He was even scatting along with the head of the title track!?

I just told him that he could learn how to play this style of music and that you get to make up what you play as you go and his jaw dropped and he said "You get to just play... WHATEVER YOU WANT AND YOU MAKE IT UP AS YOU GO?!"

Funny thing is he improvises all the time but this maybe legitimizes it somehow?
