new paper: the 2021 Child Tax Credit — which from July to Dec 2021 gave qualifying families up to $3,600 per child in auto monthly payments — not only appeared to “reduced child poverty by half” it also notably “improved the mental health of adults in the lowest-income families.”

If the GOP is really the party of “family values,” why did Republicans (and their good pal Joe Manchin) let the expanded Child Tax Credit expire — despite the incredible impact of the payments on low-income families?
@rbreich because they (GOP) do not care about helping citizens, they are for the privileged…and that is it…
@rbreich The GOP is the Party of Lies.
@rbreich Low income families are not who they care about. Not in the least.
@rbreich
Think maybe we all need to define family values…
@rbreich
It seems that “family values” and “charitable values” are not necessarily the same thing.
@rbreich Because they're about *control* - keep them uppity women and uppity BIPOC folks under control. They don't give a rat's ass about poor people. They use family values as a way to coopt people who actually *do* care about families into voting to keep their #klept asses in power.
@rbreich
Is there research on the contribution to inflation from these Child Tax Credit payments? I'd think it would have been a fairly major contributor to inflation, but data one way or another would be nice.
@rbreich They say money can't buy happiness, but it sure can buy relief!
@rbreich wait until people start to file their taxes and find out that the CTC is way reduced from last year...people that filed just to get the CTC will find that they might not qualify as there is now a minimum earned income requirement...
@rbreich So many are now deep in debt and now the feds keep raising interest rates. The USA is drawing its population.
@rbreich they don’t care about helping anyone but themselves and their militia

@rbreich This is more evidence that poverty is bad for people, and it can be changed reasonably easily

As if more evidence was needed
