There’s no overwhelming GOP voter demand for gas stoves for GOP politicians to respond to. Pretty much all the poor/MC Republicans I grew up with had electric ovens/ranges.

GOP politicians are just obediently boosting gas companies’ marginal profits uber alles, including, as always, maternal and kids’ health [and as always, the climate].

There are some very small groups of rural peeps (like me) who like their gas stove when the power is out for a few days. Does that use case overwhelm the damage to all? No. And y’know what we could use instead? Solar arrays & old generators, which at least burn outside our houses.

Anyway, the point is that the GOP couldn’t give two shits about any of you. They are doing this to keep the owners of gas refineries and gas pipelines in business. That’s it.

That said, you know another internal air quality issue that causes heart disease, childhood asthma, and cognitive damage?

It’s COVID. And it’s killing 500 people A DAY in this country and maiming tens of thousands. Not per year. Per day.

So I’d like to see all politicians who (rightly!) care about gas stoves also mount a commensurate attempt to get top tier ventilation in all public buildings, especially our schools. Now.

@chargrille It's only a shame that it took a serious pandemic like COVID to get us to think about these details of clean and safe living.

Influenza and even common colds are not "harmless little bugs," but they are infectious diseases that take a slow but no less deadly toll on us. The immune system is not like a muscle, but wear on it actually extracts a deep expense on our bodies. What our bodies do to fight off a cold slowly kills our hearts.

Ventilation, now!

@chargrille The US Green Building Council is actively pushing the use of top-tier ventilation in new and retrofitted buildings.
