Although Mastodon's ability to create longer posts is appealing to the writer, it is unpleasant for the reader, who often prefers not to scroll through long blocks of text. I suspect this will prevent mass adoption of this platform.

It depends on the server: on neuromatch.social the character limit is 10000 😁

Personally I think it’s great and usually you have to click to see the full posts anyway. But I agree they could be given a CW: “long post” just to be sure. Certainly not a reason to not join Mastodon 🤔

I really appreciate when users use a CW for long posts. Something like I've done here...though without the long post.

Definitely makes it easier to scroll past or choose to open if you want to read it.
