I see former Secretary of Transportation #ElaineChao is back in the news given the #FAA troubles this morning.

Let me say this much... I do not think that Secretary #Buttigeig has done wonders for FAA reform and the #NHTSA (for automotive safety) is as ineffective as ever.

(And there is a hostile Congress to consider also.)

But, Secretary #Chao was *by far* the worst Secretary of Transportation in recent memory.

Secretary Chao set the #USDOT back years... maybe even a decade.

@adamjcook I'd assumed that Chao was one of Trump's crony capitalism appointees at first, having forgotten (among many other things) her appointment during his administration.

At first it looked that way when I went and read back through articles about her. Then I saw that she's married to Mitch McConnell.

Oh.

@bw84 It was an *awful* tenure - and it could not have come at a worse time.

The 737 MAX scandal.

Massive, structural changes in automotive technologies with outsized public safety dangers.

Emission standards back to the Dark Ages.

Secretary Chao left office during a significant upswing in roadway and pedestrian deaths - now at a 20-year and 40-year high, respectively.

Incompetence is a word.

Disinterested crony is a better word, as you noted.
