There is a tremendous about of denialism going on at Twitter. People refuse to admit that they're willfully enabling this right-wing takeover of the entire network by not even trying to leave. But that is what they are doing. All because they're too afraid their followers won't follow them elsewhere. It's a silly fear. No one needs those huge numbers anyway, and most picked up very substantial followings here in a matter of days.
@shoq At first I was willing to go with the whole follower anxiety thing, but now I think it is that they realize how one-dimensional they are. They have nothing to offer beyond stoking so-called righteous anger.
@shoq Shadowbanning on Twitter is real. I have ±6,500 followers there and only ±500 followers here, but more interaction here, because my followers here actually have a chance to see what I say.

@shoq

I had 10X + the number of followers there and 1/4 of the engagement.

Some here hasn't been positive, just blocked a mansplainer, for instance, but overall, I haven't even noticed a difference.

@JenWojcik @shoq why does everyone want so many followers? I’ve never understood that part. Unless, the need is for business purposes like selling art or something like that, is it just so that 5,000 people know what posters are thinking instead of just 500, or 50?

@TequilaMockingbird @shoq

It's a behavior gained at corporate sites. The more followers you had, the more exposure the algorithms gave your content. Simple as that.

@shoq @JenWojcik If you run a small business that generates revenue from your followers, leaving isn’t cut and dried.
@shoq They're ego-tripping.
