This "Mastodon is so hard" narrative reminds me of when the most common thing one heard about Twitter was "I just don't get Twitter." It's mostly just repeating a narrative they heard many others make after spending about 5 minutes trying. It's lazy when anyone says it. It's reckless when journalists do.
@shoq I didn't use twt that much to begin with but one thing it had going for it was immediacy. You create your account and the algo and suggestions get you engaged right away. Not necessarily in a good way which is why I like Mastodon, but for many ordinary users, I think the exception is the immediate delivery of entertainment.
@Coffeetest But that's going to be so easy to do once we have some capital invested. It's getting that capital, whether from nonprofits or PBCs, that we should be focusing on collectively.
@shoq I'm excited for the future of decentralized systems like this. The collapse of twt seems like a forgone conclusion, and it will be interesting to see where all that time, attention and energy goes.
