If you read one thing today, make it this moving piece from Celine Gounder about the legacy of her late husband Grant Wahl and the grifters who would try to twist it for the purposes of antivax propaganda.

I’ll follow this post with a link to an un-paywalled version.

@ct_bergstrom This makes me wish there were a way to tax the spread of ignorance, especially when that spread amplifies and extends the grief of another. What if, once disinformation is exposed as such, there were a penalty of say, a one or two week account suspension for spreading the lie? People might begin thinking twice before sharing bullshit.
@ct_bergstrom Thank you, much appreciated. Celine is a wonderful writer, on my short list of follows these past few years.
@ct_bergstrom One of those things where your admiration for the person is admixed with utter revulsion at the grotesque knuckle-walkers who force her to do this.
@ct_bergstrom bravo to Dr Gounder. It is terrible that people attack doctors and scientists to the point of death and rape threats, along with online harassment, and use tragic deaths for trolling.
@ct_bergstrom thank you for sharing this here. She has been one of my favorite people on the bird site. She is very courageous, but it sucks that she has to go through this in her time of grief and loss.
@ct_bergstrom absolutely. read this morning.
@ct_bergstrom As a long time fan of Grant’s excellent work, I was so deeply saddened by his death. Finding out it was being exploited by the malevolent crazies was enraging.
