The House Speaker Election shows us that Republicans in the House are functioning within a dysfunctional control system based on division, threats and extortion while the Democrats are functioning within a sound system of Governance based on Unity and fundamental Principles of Democracy.

It’s been a while, but as a former Republican, today’s Republicans are a Complete Disgrace, while the Democrats in both the House and Senate make me Proud to be an American.

Today, I’m Proud to be a Democrat.

@Gleng2 you’ve described that well Glen.
I’m very proud to be a democrat as well. It speaks volumes as to who you are as a person.💙

@TrisResists

The Republicans were never a perfect fit for me. I can easily say now that being a Democrat is fitting like a glove these days.

@Gleng2 @TrisResists I fear many people are Republicans because their parents were Republicans.

@Agora @TrisResists

My case exactly. My father is a staunch Republican (I used to think it was just because he doesn't want to pay any taxes), and we've been in business together for years. He definitely had an influence on me early on.

My sister graduated from Bryn Maur University and was as liberal as they come until she started driving into work every day with my father listening to Rush. Now she's all in with the Repubs - go figure.

Parents can definitely have a strong influence.

@Gleng2 @TrisResists I cannot speak for all black people, but we are primarily conservative because we grew up in the church. However, so many factors forced us to be progressive. I believe it's a matter of self-preservation. Conservatives don't want anything to change. That doesn't bode well for our survival. That's how I understand my left-wing radicalism. It's for self-preservation and our dignity. I don't know if this makes sense.
@Agora @Gleng2 @TrisResists You post points to the worthlessness of a two-valued, polarized analysis. I appreciate what feels like an invitation to inquiry!
@TrisResists @Gleng2 @Agora not black American but when my Dad, staunch conservative, asked why I had become so liberal, I explained that when he dropped me off at college in Cinci in the 70s, I was about to learn a whole lotta bout awakening. Even a dumb kid from rural Ohio could see something was seriously different both in how black citizens lived and grew up, how they were treated by public servants like the police, Emergency svces, etc.It was wrong
@tend2wobble @TrisResists @Gleng2 under normal circumstances, it shouldn't take going to college to understand the harm. However, I know that right-wing politics is about maintaining the charade that everything is fine. If someone says they are oppressed, it's because they are not working hard enough. The police killings of black men is justified even in churches and by church leaders. It's frightening.
@TrisResists @Gleng2 @Agora It was the actual geographic and environmental change that erased the rose-tint.
