If anyone going to church in broad daylight says that they are "fearful of the homeless outside of their church" I'm always going to instantly and immediately ask them why they are not inviting said homeless inside of their church.

Like, it's been a minute since I read the bible but I'm pretty sure there were one or two passages about this in those pages.

For real, people. If you've got a roof and money in your pocket ask yourself why you're "fearful" of your unhoused neighbors.

P.S. - I do at least kind of get it about "we're a small church, we don't have the resources"... but that's "we don't have the resources to SOLVE the problem."

If you're a church, you have the resources to APPROACH the problem. And, I would say, you also have the obligation to do so.

@deviantollam I remember when my previous company moved to a new office and there was a big catholic church next door. I didn't like them very much. Then I found out they had a community food bank that their collection funded. And then they placed crisis shelters on their land to help out some of our unhoused neighbors. I still very much hate the Catholic church in the grand scheme of things, but it was genuinely heartening to see some Christians live their purported values. We need more of it.

@awarham yeah... St. James Cathedral here in town is the diocese seat for the whole region and their building is of course large and beautiful but they're constantly going broke from feeding and clothing our unhoused family here. that is the way.
