From @steveschmidtses

"The rise of Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries is what mattered last night. He will be the first black Speaker of the House in two short years. He will be the balm over the next two years that inspires, leads and settles the apprehensions of a skittish country who will pay the price for creating the MAGA majority by their own free will. That is how democracy works.”

A tragic week for America

There is a contradiction inherent in this moment. It is the “best of times,” and it is the “worst of times.” Without question, there is no period of human history that has ever existed that is preferable to our own. There is no epoch that has been more just or peaceful. There is no time where there has been greater justice and opportunity. There is no era of utopia from which we have fallen back that is now unattainable.

The Warning by Steve Schmidt

What a speech!

It gave me some joy amidst the “disgust” of what the other side has done.

@Lynda @steveschmidtses Yes, Hakeem Jeffries understood the assignment! 😀
@steveschmidtses @sonyasteele
Relatedly - Steve Schmidt is here! 😆
@sonyasteele @steveschmidtses As much as I am apprehensive about the GOP agenda, or lack thereof, I am more appreciative of the leadership skill that the honorable minority leader Hakeem Jeffries has already demonstrated. Like many, I did not know of him until his selection as House Minority Leader. It's clear that all of us will become much more knowledgeable as these next 2 years proceed.
@gnarlygeek @steveschmidtses And it's also comforting to know that he has great support within the caucus from Nancy Pelosi, et al.
@sonyasteele @steveschmidtses Amen. Ase. So may it be. 🙌🏾 #Psalm91🙏🏾

Deep breath. Exhale.

Yes, worth a read. Only 16 verses.

With luck, two years from now, we switch things around.

@sonyasteele @steveschmidtses "John Quincy Adams was the only president of the United States to serve in the US House of Representatives.". Um, no! Off the top of my head, Lincoln, JFK, and Bush 41 did too.
@PhD_Frog @steveschmidtses He should have probably written "former president." John Quincy Adams was elected to the House of Representatives after he had served as president.
@sonyasteele @steveschmidtses his speech was superb. Inspirational. Uplifting. Hopeful. A pledge.
