Events on the House floor yesterday, mark much more than the beginning a Republican majority in the House.

It marks the beginning of the end of any socially responsible legislation. The politically fatal concessions waterboarded out of McCarthy will have a profound impact on everyday Americans.

Of 435 elected representatives, the entire legislative agenda will be driven by less than 5% of representatives, many of who supported insurrection and 25% of whom don’t believe in government at all.

@politicsusa46
The US will be "governed" by a minority of a gerrymandered minority who do not believe in the use and power of the government. Will anyone stand up to them? Certainly not standard conservatives, certainly not centrist Democrats, certainly not progressives that grovel at the feet of centrists. So where does the US go from here? #kevinmccarthy #fallofrome
@politicsusa46 his hubris puts us all in jeopardy. he should have stood down for the sake of the US but he's selfish and entitled AF.

@politicsusa46

Qevin gave it ALL away.
Dignity, Integrity, Morality, Ethics & Democracy
All the @HouseDemocrats
should call him #SINOMcCarthy for
Speaker. In. Name. Only.
What a terribly sad spectacle & embarrassment for US
Where is DOJ?
Time to indict & expel #GOPTraitors & #SeditionCaucus

@politicsusa46

Kevin McCarthy is one of the insurrectionists.

He refused to vote to certify the election of Joe Biden.

@politicsusa46 : "waterboarded out of McCarthy."
👏👏👏
@politicsusa46 time to get a real democracy, where 1. every vote counts the same and 2. you have more than just two political parties in the race. A two-party system is toxic.
@politicsusa46 Get ready for two years of incompetence, revenge, in-fighting and needless drama. The GQP doesn’t know how to govern and doesn’t care. God help the American people. McCarthy gave away all his power in exchange for a photo op behind the Speaker’s Podium. #houseofrepresentatives #KevinMcCarthyIsALoser

@politicsusa46

When Republicans call Democrats "sick," they are not wrong, they sicken us.
They sicken everything they touch, every room they enter, every space where they breathe, their disease landing on us all.

@politicsusa46 I also love how the gop has been spinning their shit this last week to try and make this seem like nothing. What does the future hold? Can anyone say hyper-Roomba?
@politicsusa46 Yup! What do we have to do to insert a spine into the Democrats in power? They had two years to bring these insurrectionists to some kind of justice.

@nandor it’s a good and proper question my friend.

Nobody is more frustrated than me, but given Biden made a commitment not to politicize the DOJ, we can’t really lay it at the feet of Dems, but rather at the feet of Merrick Garland.

I’m sure though he will say it’s not over yet.

@politicsusa46 Garland (and Biden's decision to retain him) should have the biggest blame. Going after one political party with tons of evidence of criminal wrongdoing isn't political.

What *is* political is letting them get away with it, which is exactly what we're doing.

@politicsusa46 I’m probably being naïve, but I find optimism in the recent hiring of two attorneys, by Jack Smith, who have experience prosecuting high level government officials.
@LillyCat I always like to think good will prevail, so let’s share that common good thought shall we?
@politicsusa46 none of their bills will see the light of day tganks to a Senate and White House t had at are adults
@politicsusa46 No reason to dignify these insurrectionists by using their own propagandistic name. They’re the Republican Fascism Caucus to me.

“Yes, hard-right authoritarian caucus. House Fascism Caucus is a better name than the House Fr**dom Caucus. The name they prefer is just the performative public lying that is a feature of rightwing authoritarianism (h/t @mcopelov). It’s really the House Fascism Caucus.”
