"That was easy, huh? I never thought I would get up here," begins Kevin McCarthy.
"I promise our debates will be passionate, but they will never be personal," McCarthy tells Jeffries.
"Our very first bill will be to repeal the funding for 87,000 IRS agents," promises McCarthy.
We will create a bipartisan select committee on #China to win this economic competition, adds McCarthy.
"One of our very first hearings will be held on the Southern border," announces House Speaker McCarthy. "We must secure our border."
"As a Congress we can only operate if we cooperate," McCarthy tells lawmakers. "My door will be open. I would like you to come by."
"I hope one thing is clear after this week. I never give up," says incoming House Speaker Kevin McCarthy after 15 votes to get the gavel.
Now it's really official.
@w7voa In Spain, the media supported the Republican candidate. I don't even know the name of the Democratic candidate. It has been McCarthy's fight against the rest.

@w7voa @cucufaiter -

That’s not incorrect. The Republicans hold the majority in the House, so it’s been a question of “who will lead the Republicans?” all along.

Two party system means this wasn’t a fight over control of the House (like in many parliamentary systems where coalitions *must* form) but just the warm body sitting in the Republicans’ chair in the end.

@TJJohn12 @w7voa @cucufaiter
Pretty clear it's now three parties, and they've just formed a coalition government that would embarrass even the Italians.
