The many branches of the Fediverse

As more and more people are asking me about Mastodon I felt a need for a picture to point at, showcasing how the software known as Mastodon fits into the much larger concept of the Fediverse. I made this infographic to help myself and others explain the many different use-cases

@ChrisPirillo i wish that when people updated this graphic they had also included #Hometown, #Glitchsoc, #Calckey and #Akkoma (all robust forks).

One issue with this is that the chart would be quite unreadable considering that there's more and more forks of these software as the time goes on, unless there's a separate graphics just to show their forks. Even #Akkoma itself has been forked by some instance operators as well.

The graphics is missing upcoming microblogging platforms like #GoToSocial & #Takahe though...

@deltatux @ChrisPirillo graphic design is the passion of enough people to solve that problem. my beef is that that diagram obscures some pretty important fediverse projects and foregrounds some pretty unimportant ones.
