I’m building a giant feral cat shelter in my backyard cuz I saw one of my favorite wild cats sleeping in the rain on my old swing and that will not do. There will be a cat house under the swing when I’m done. No wet cats on my watch. #cats #helper
Update on my feral #cat shelter project. Huge success! Both my wild cat friends (that I have named Spike and Jeff) were snuggled together in their new cat condo all night. The home made of tarps and a love-seat swing features two toys, multiple levels and protection from rain and cold. There are blankets and self heating pads, a house, as well as catnip as needed. They are fed in a separate location. #cats #feral #helper (photos are described in post)
@SurlyAmy that’s amazing. ❤️ If you don’t mind my asking, what are the self heating pads that you use?
@tiamat271 honestly, I just ordered what was on sale on Amazon and I can’t remember the brand. I have another cat shelter in the front of my house. I buy news ones every so often. Just as long as they have the metal layer inside it reflects heat back to the cats. I have a few electric ones in houses out front but in this part of California it never gets that cold to really need em.
@SurlyAmy I’d like to get heating pads for my cats (indoor, but they are incredibly spoiled), but I am leery of electric ones for safety reasons. I didn’t know there were self heating ones, I’m going to check them out now. Thanks!!
@tiamat271 @SurlyAmy if you sew, you can make one with reflective potholder liner
@SurlyAmy @baba_lilith my sewing skills are rudimentary but I bet my cats wouldn’t mind. Great idea, thanks!
@SurlyAmy I wondered how this turned out. We’ve been on very limited data since last week.
@fly44d TWO cats are snuggling in it and they had two other family members visit last night. I imagine them making catnip cocktails and chatting about the nice roof I made them. Hah but yes, success. It’s pouring rain but the cat condo is dry inside.
@fly44d ps I hope you guys can go home home soon and that everything is fine. If not, you are welcome to stay at the cat condo.
@SurlyAmy we ended up staying and not evacuating. We were isolated by slides and the power is still out but everything is mostly fine, just a little damp. The people in Aptos, Capitola and Watsonville got all the flooding. No deaths as far as I can tell! 🙂
