BTW, here's a little interesting fact. You may have noticed that cameras in the House the last few days are frequently focusing on groups of congresspersons and areas other than the front of the chamber. This is NOT typical. C-SPAN operates the cameras and feeds them out. Normally, House leadership controls where the cameras point, and that is virtually always to the front, avoiding any other areas or groups of persons in the chamber. But with the House leadership in limbo, C-SPAN has full control, and they're wisely making the most of it!
@lauren wait Congress doesn't have free press it's literally directing what the public is allowed to see? Sounds bad.
@bangskij Congress makes the rules regarding their actions that are not designated by the Constitution. They have always made the rules. Since they are the people's elected representatives, they are assumed to be representing the interests of the people.
@lauren allow me to introduce the concept of checks and balances, maybe a bit of a stretch for our geriatric nation states but I hear good things about it, maybe something to consider
@bangskij The checks and balances are there, in that the judicial branch is a check on both of the other branches. And the president has veto power over Congress according to the rules set down in the Constitution. There are all sorts of checks and balances, but access to the Chamber rests with Congress itself. If they chose, they could ban most cameras entirely, as the Supreme Court has almost always done.
@lauren nonsense, if I can't see it happening I have to take someones word for it and for me to do that I would have to be their friend. That's why all the supreme court rulings are just someone elses vivid imagination. Not some kind verifiable fact, you want me to believe they banned abortion I'm gonna need some video of it happening. These people, especially these people, should never have the opportunity to opt out of journalism. That's autocratic. No respect, 0/10 do not recommend. Fuck em.
