I'm moving away from #lastpass. What should I move too? #1Pass? #help?
@SHG our family uses 1Password. Works fine for us.
@SHG I will be honest I have never used lastpass. I didn’t quite understand the appeal. I use KeePassium on my phone and back that up. I presume that gives you the same functionality? Again I’ve never used lastpass so I don’t know for certain what it does that makes people use it so I can’t really do a comparison. Am I falling for a vulnerability by using KeePassium on my phone? Obviously if I loose my phone I loose the passwords etc.
@enhickman @SHG you can sync your keepass database with another device. Use syncthing for instance. Secure open source synchronisation between devices using peer-to-peer. No cloud. No service.
@enhickman thx eric. I've used #lastpass for a while but their recent security breaches and lack of transparency on action is causing me to move.
@SHG use bitwarden instead or keepass. Avoid proprietary software that cannot be trusted.
@SHG I've been mostly happy with 1Password for many, many years (since 2008 I think?). That said, their recent investment round has given me pause, so I've been thinking about other options. But so far they haven't done anything to actually drive me away (and the family sharing works really well for us).
@SHG Never used either of those, but been experimenting with Bitwarden, and it seems to have everything a browser based PW manager would have. It's portable across browsers, devices, etc.
@SHG I don’t regret that I did. Nice UI, supports all OSes that I use (iOS, macOS, Windows). The kicker for me was discovering that it has built-in support for two-factor authentication, so no more swapping between password vault app and authenticator. I’m almost done changing ~300 passwords 🥵. Maybe overkill, bit better safe than sorry…
@SHG I made the move to Bitwarden and I'm pretty happy with it.
