The current chaos surrounding the election of a House Speaker provides yet another exit ramp for non-MAGA Republicans.

This one may be the last. https://robertreich.substack.com/p/the-last-exit-ramp-for-non-maga-republicans

The last exit ramp for non-MAGA Republicans

They must join with House Democrats (and House Dems with them) to elect a non-MAGA Speaker

@rbreich
Terrorists aren't smart enough to do what it takes to save themselves.
@rbreich
Honestly that seems such an obvious solution. What's holding it up?
@rbreich The Republicans’ chickens are coming home to roost.
@rbreich Jeffries only needs 6 of them to see the light.
@rbreich and they still won’t take it. How many times can you get hit over the head with a chance and ignore it?
@rbreich - Lol. “Exit ramp?” They’re clamoring to go to hell. Raising the debt ceiling is gonna be a nightmare.
@rbreich I wonder how many non-MAGA Republicans will reregister soon as Independents. 🤔
@bitterseeds @rbreich I wonder if that will make a difference. The super PACs that really run things are putting the screws to the Republicans to cave and elect McCarthy already. I don't see how even the most brainwashed MAGAt Is going to be able to fight that. https://congressionalleadershipfund.org/clf-club-for-growth-come-to-key-agreement-in-support-of-kevin-mccarthy-for-speaker/
CLF & Club for Growth Come to Key Agreement In Support of Kevin McCarthy for Speaker - Congressional Leadership Fund

WASHINGTON — Congressional Leadership Fund – the independent super PAC endorsed by Kevin McCarthy – and the Club for Growth reached agreement on support for Speaker Kevin McCarthy. Statement from CLF President Dan Conston: “Kevin McCarthy has effectively led House Republicans from the Minority to the Majority and we want to see him continue to […]

@sspopovich @rbreich I'm not sure. I just see some of the old guards finally saying F it and going Indie. Will it happen, I have no idea. It just came up in a discussion I had with some other friends who are also political junkies. I'm not sure the "Furious Five" care about PACs or anyone else for that matter. We'll see.
@bitterseeds @rbreich “independent” implies some sort of courage…
@sophie_a2 Not really. It should. But it really doesn't.
@rbreich
The last chance for an exit ramp was when Darth Jar-Jar stole the election with the help of the Supreme Court.
@rbreich Reach that far across the aisle and you may find yourself an amputee when dealing with the right wing.
@rbreich Dear Dr., giving Republicans advice how to improve and win more elections is not our job, perhaps. Tho MSM has all Dems doing that the last 40 years. And Repb benefit from the smarter Dem advice all those 4 decades. Better, we talk about OUR people and ideas. Note MSNBC does not do that. MSNBC full of ex-Repub giving advice to Repb all the time. Never building Dem brands. Never focus on our ideas.
@rbreich yes. It is an exit ramp. Hope they take it and cooperate with Democrats. May help short circuit the MAGA loop
@rbreich Republicans don't really govern, they take direction from multinational corporations and wealthy special interests which sponsor their inaction on vital issues. They are well funded to refrain from doing the work of legislating.
@rbreich The GOP has been taken over by the nut jobs.
@rbreich This is on @GOPLeader for this mess America finds itself in. @GOP had an opportunity to rid themselves of #Trump & his #GOPClownShow at least twice!Also blame #MerrickGarland who hasn’t indicted any #SeditionCaucus members. #IndictTrumpAndHisAccomplices #GOPCorruptionOverCountry
@rbreich so they elect Jeffries - then what? The GOP implodes and takes the Dems with them?

@rbreich until Tea Party version 3 shows up and people attempt to address their bad faith with good faith

I'm sure this time it'll work though

House Democrats should unite with moderate Republicans to elect a speaker

In exchange for backing a relatively moderate Republican such as Fred Upton or David Joyce as speaker, Democrats should demand they get equal seats on committees
