If the top 1% holding more wealth than 290 million Americans doesn’t convince you that wealth inequality is out of control, I don’t know what will.
@rbreich that is a good stat and a concerning one as well. Having said that, where and how do you practically draw the line up to which individuals can accumulate wealth and at what point will they become disinterested to the extent that they will stop meaningfully contributing to creating or organizing enterprises that have the capability to bring up everyones living standard?
@rexthehuman @rbreich Increase minimum wage to liveable standards, unionized work forces, taxation, invest tax $ in high impact social mobility programs such as health & education. Jeff Bezos only happens in the US because the US allows corporations to exploit Americans like it’s not seen in the rest if the developed countries. @VG @rbreich good list. What are your views on UBI and Universal Minimal Healthcare? Will that offset some of the minimum wage needs that seems to be only helpful to the employable folks?
@rexthehuman @rbreich I live in Canada. We’ve had universal healthcare since the 1960’s. It’s not perfect but it’s way better than what we experienced as tourist in the US. Fortunately we had full travel insurance coverage, but when we saw the bill, we were astonished by the hospital/md overcharging for a 20 minutes consultation + cost of a very simple medication. Everybody should have access to good quality universal healthcare without having to worry about the cost.
@rexthehuman @rbreich BTW, I love Americans and the USA and as someone who cares, I can see the general anxiety americans live with and it gets more & more palpable. It’s very sad.
