Seriously, pick off a half-dozen Republicans, ⁦@HouseDemocrats⁩. Promise them great committee seats. Destroy the GOP majority while it’s down. https://theintercept.com/2023/01/04/kevin-mccarthy-government-shutdown-debt-ceiling/
Kevin McCarthy Must Commit to Government Shutdown Over Raising Debt Ceiling, Says Freedom Caucus Holdout

The 18 House Republicans from Biden districts are the key here. Congressional expert @bindersab tells me that an effective discharge petition strategy could "put a lot of pressure on those Republicans to defect and join the Democrats."

Kevin McCarthy’s disastrous travails show Democrats must defang MAGA

To minimize the damage of a MAGA-fied GOP House, Democrats have to get creative.

@rudepundit

Awesome!
"Zee schism! She is happening!"

@rudepundit If the Republicans are already identified, Democrats should be looking to one to become a possible Speaker candidate in exchange for promises not to shut the government down, not to use the debt ceiling as a bargaining chip and not to remove Democrats from committees. If they feel really good about coming up with a working coalition, they could even shut down the promised investigations before they start...
@rudepundit All these ideas you're posting makes it sound like D leadership is capable of doing something that wasn't acceptable behavior in, say, 1978.
@rudepundit
What effect would this have on policy that would come out of The House?
@rudepundit
It's a reasonable plan, but I don't think there are half a dozen Republicans willing to be bought off.

@VATVSLPR @rudepundit agreed!

I'd be shocked if any, let alone 6 would do the right thing by the country.
