Qi2: How Apple might finally harness MagSafe by giving it away

The Qi wireless charging standard’s successor, Qi2, will have magnets like MagSafe, because Apple is contributing that exact idea.

@seanhollister I often wonder how widespread wireless charging actually is. I personally don’t know anyone who uses it, and I have been reluctant to research a wireless charger, to invest into one and to add it to my home office setup. It feels a hassle compared to the easiness of taking the charging cable out of my drawer.
@cangoerts I found it more useful in the car than in my home, and I like it for accessories and mobile batteries better than nighttime charging
@seanhollister I try to avoid nighttime charging as much as possible. I have a 2 year old iPhone 12 mini, and unfortunately the battery life took a hit in the last year because our newborn was only willing to sleep while being held, which I could only survive by listening to podcasts and watching shows on my phone. I’m trying to preserve the remaining battery life as much as I can.
