I sort of wanted to include Fred Pool’s Gateway, but the first couple of books in the series is just first contact with alien tech. The aliens themselves don’t show up until book 3 (IIRC).
Also, none of us thought to include a 1st contact with AI like Moon Is a Harsh Mistress by Heinlein or Two Faces of Tomorrow by James Hogan.
