@artsyhonker Can't just flick 'em out? Interestingly they're actually ravenous carnivores. The wood they grow on is really low in nitrogen, but they get extra by having hyphae lassos that constrict around microscopic nematode worms in the wood and allow the fungus to digest them. Shaggy ink cap mushrooms do something similar with sticky balls on their mycelia.
