It's been really interesting watching Avatar 2 basically replicate the box office path of the first film, in terms of minimal box office decreases over weekends and solid weekday numbers, especially as people were sure the first film was one people didn't even remember. Turns out the Avatar films don't need a legacy, or to be memorable, they just needed to look real pretty. Which they do.

I saw it in 3D with the family today.
Subtle metaphor isn't Cameron's thing, but his films are sure something to see. The sad parts are very sad, especially near the end, but overall the story's just enough to be a framework for the spectacle. I'll watch this one again at home and see the next one too.

An additional note on the quality of the CGI: most of it was good enough that it looked like a nature documentary. I'm sure a lot of that was because Cameron is practiced at the real thing, but it wouldn't have held up without astounding graphics.
