@zephyrleifrenner I recently saw a poll that demonstrated a surprisingly high percentage of Americans would welcome a mask mandate. People know what they SHOULD be doing, but they won't unless someone makes them (to avoid the social stigma, apparently.)

Bans and mandates are the only things that work.

See smoking, seatbelts, car seats, building codes (sewer, water treatment, etc).

Relying on voluntary compliance is foolish and has been proven to not work historically.

When smoking in public facilities was about to be banned, people waxed catastrophic over how restaurants and bars would go out of business. (They didn't.) With masks it's even worse because the issue was politicized early on.
