Don't forget to update the footer of your website!
@vkc $date embed script says what?
@vkc What, you mean you all don't <script>document.write(new Date().getFullYear());</script> ?
@dragfyre @vkc Doesn’t work when you disable JS 😉
@vkc I run my datestamps through shasum and then tell people they are up to date. Haven’t changed the dates in a decade.

@fuzzface in this case since we know the hashes are dates, we can just hash a bunch of different 21st century dates and compare them to the hash.

new christmas CVE just dropped

@optimal Aha, I don’t publish the date format 🤪
@fuzzface we can also just generate in a bunch of different date formats
@optimal This could go on forever. I concede and wish you a Happy New Year!
@vkc
Last change: 5.11.2012
@vkc
Of course this was a joke. Last change was August 27th 2016. Much better.
@vkc I assure you the animated "this website is under construction!" gif still applies
@vkc if you don't say (c) me original website don't steal then that means people will steal it
@vkc just a few more minutes...
@vkc And all the LICENCE files!
@vkc That's always a security tell. If they aren't diligent enough to update their website footer for the new year, they probably aren't diligent enough to handle your personal information.

Mastodon 🐘
@futureisfoss @vkc Not saying we can't offer a few days grace...
@MHowell
Well, no one's perfect, so its fine I guess
@vkc
@vkc
It is a good time to fix those old dates!
Someone scolded me last night for posting a couple simple date scripts and one wasn’t as efficient as it should be. It was the first time I felt someone was kinda mean on Mastadon. Oh well, left it posted. Happy New Year!
@vkc wait, no one heard of PHP yet?! My footer auto-updates. Because, I want to use my time more productivly then thinking about time. Makes me feel old… leave time for my time of death to my relative, The Rest is for the computer to figure out
@vkc okay (sets the date to 1947)
@vkc I just found that about.twitter.com is stuck at 2022.

@vkc

Don't you only need to do that when you actually update the content?

@vkc good reminder, I have mine between my “under construction” and “digital visitor” counter…1999 🥳
@vkc Not necessary if properly configured 😉
@vkc If you're smart you wrote a CSS to automatically update it 😜
@vkc this made me actually laugh out loud 😂
@vkc I'm remembering when I used to have to actually do this each year!

@vkc I can't tell if you know that you don't need to, but I can tell that many of your followers don't know you don't need to.

Here's a thing. https://hynek.me/til/copyright-years/

You Can Stop Updating Copyright Attribution Years

Every January 1st, an army of open source developers rushes out to update their copyright attributions in licenses and documentation. Why? Because we’ve always done it that way.

Hynek Schlawack
@vkc I have it Date(“Y”) so I’m good :)
