A 2 party system. That's what. It merges the extremes into the mainstream. They just spread some nasty rumour about the other party and they win. This is only going to get worse, with more hate and more desperation to win at all costs, unless the US switches to proportional representation voting. Which will bring a whole set of new and varying political parties. 'Choice' is missing today.

@ianp5a @georgetakei We've had a 2 party system in this country since 1828. Until 2016/2020 it has worked fine. So much has changed in the past 7 years and it's not all good. And then there's the EC. We need a democracy. No question. 💁‍♀️

Right. But it's a powerful first principle, not some tactical difference. Over the years it affected the parties first. Then spread to the people, who eventually come to think of the 2 sides as normal. As right! From outside the US it's noticeable that US people talk and think in the 'us and them' all the time now. And only now, when tested, that division is becoming a hard division. This broken first principle is causing your culture wars, and letting down the US people.

@ianp5a @georgetakei It's become a dog-eat-dog state in the U.S. over politics for the past 7 years due to extremists who are allowed to freely roam the countryside. And they're quick to project their shortcomings and values to the other side. 🙄

@ianp5a @georgetakei In our case, extremists are being nurtured by our conservative party instead of being disciplined bc "they" want power over all else. It's a heinous state of affairs. We have 2 more days before things change...again...and many of us are taking a gamble that things will work out for the best. 🙄 😬 (I'm not a gambler)

Yes. It's seems to be a huge mess on all levels. I wish you the best of luck fighting the battles. But to win the war, something big needs to change.
The UK has a similar 2 party system, and are sliding down the same dark path as the US. People there are being told "the 'other' party will take away your <any topic>". Also this is being stirred up by certain foreign powers investing in bots and troll farms.

@ianp5a @georgetakei Thank you. It's going to be a long difficult fight (I imagine) but fascism is my and my fellow citizens' enemy (at least those with common sense and the need to express an opinion). I imagine it's already 2023 on your side of the globe! Happy New Year!
