Here's a good summary by Eric Topol about the rise of the XBB.1.5 variant in New York. The United States is the first country to have a XBB.x subvariant become dominant.
@luckytran Nice Article! I think the one line summary would be: If you haven't had the bivalent vaccine, now would be a REALLY GOOD time!
Yesterday's CDC data puts XBB.1.5 at 40.5% of variants nationally (ugh).
@LawrencesView @luckytran That is a good one line summary. Everything I've read says that XBB is an Omicron BA4/5 descendant, therefore the bivalent boosters work *really* *well* against XBB. I am seeing this everywhere in reputable sources.
Is vaccine uptake a problem? Yes, absolutely. Hopefully the disinformation peddlers are now reasonably aghast at what their malfeasance has unleashed upon the earth, and they will dial it back enough, that the holdouts can be deprogrammed long enough to get even one shot.
Also hopefully more vaccines will be provided through COVAX, but I'm not quite as optimistic on that.
"Now it appears that in New York State, XBB evolved further to XBB.1.5. The key mutation of XBB.1.5 is clearly F486P. XBB.1.5 is one to acquire the F486P mutation."
