I hate most RPG mechanics, and they're badly immersion breaking for me. I've never in real life compared the stats of two pairs of socks before choosing which to wear. I've never refreshed my hit points by drinking a red potion. I have never seen a handgun so masterfully manufactured that it does 5x as much damage as its kin, allowing it to kill high level rats. I haaaave tried carrying several dozen swords in a backpack, and tbh it didn't really work out.
The other day I took a screenshot of a certain cyberpunk game set in 2077 which will remain unnamed. I'd discovered a chef who, among his food items, was also selling a chef's knife. "Cool," I thought, "it'd be funny to murder punks with a chef's knife for a while."
It offered a modest stat bump over my high tech combat knife. Its listed price was $22,000, as opposed to my $300 current knife. π
