I actually bounced off this game (and the genre) a few times since 2019 because I felt like it under-explained what I needed to do and a lifetime of JRPGs did not prepare me for all these stats & open-ended-ness.
I came back around for two reasons:
- My favorite video game of all time is a Tactical RPG (Final Fantasy Tactics)
- I've been searching for a video game style that I could also play while on my walking treadmill.
And ta-da! It worked this time.
I needed a lot of hand holding with a build guide & walkthrough for the first big chunk (all of Cyseal, basically), but then the combat started to click and I began to understand the 'right' way to handle stats and I've been cruising since. Game is a ton of fun and I'm glad I can do it while getting some movement in.
I'm about 50 hours deep and I've walked somewhere around 70 miles while playing (I do eventually sit down during really long sessions).
