fuck up Nazis, yes. make their bullshit unacceptable. make them afraid to show their damn faces or speak their hate.

BUT THIS MUST BE PAIRED WITH

positive action toward the oppressed groups Nazis target. they MUST be supported, protected, welcomed

be suspicious as fuck of anyone who is super excited about punching Nazis but "meh" on actually helping the people Nazis target

cos those folx aren't rejecting the marginalization, just the crass approach to it

lots of people seem to miss the meaning of the word "paired" in my OP

PUNCH NAZIS

--AND--

HELP THEIR TARGETS

this is v simple

distrust the ppl who only want to do the violent part (prob just like violence)

ppl who only want to do the helping part mean well but need to realize Nazis won't just go away on their own. if you can't do the punchies yourself, help those who can.

@nerdybutcute mutual aid is more important. Nazi has a bruise? Ok. But Nazi sees the communities they despise, loved and thriving? Yes!!!!
@ChristianGraus @nerdybutcute The best revenge is living well, as they say, and it's a lot easier to live well when everyone helps everyone else.
@nerdybutcute thank you. it is really, really important for allies to uplift and support -while- they protect.
@nerdybutcute how do I do that? Any general recommendations?
@tom4okstate well my rule of thumb is that the best aid is local, so looking for local orgs is good. but honestly, the most straightforward way is to boost marginalized voices when you can, learn as much as possible about their history and their oppression, and listen to recs from leaders in those communities - when they call out for aid, see what you can do in your situation to step up. eyes and ears and hearts open is always a good way to go. active allyship.

@nerdybutcute @tom4okstate "eyes and ears and hearts open is always a good way to go"

yes

@nerdybutcute +9001%

We wary of people enjoying violence - they usually turn out to be psychopaths...

@nerdybutcute If you don't have the mutual aid component then you may know what you're fighting against, but what are you fighting for?

@nerdybutcute

Literally this!!

There's a tumblr post that went around a while ago saying exactly this. It's so much more important for your politics to be based in love of those around you than in hate of the oppressors.

You'll never hear me say that nazi punching isn't important, but it's so much MORE important to take care of each other and build local communities based in mutual love and support. That's where real change will come from.

@nerdybutcute Really, this all boils down to "What Would Steve Rogers Do?"

Yes, Cap would punch the Nazi. But he'd also work to get the refugees from the Nazi somewhere safe and then later testify on their behalf at their asylum hearing.

@nerdybutcute if you break a nazi’s arm, they have 50% less arm to do nazi shit with. sometimes, violence is the answer.
Let's be clear, Nazis are not welcome here.

@nerdybutcute Interesting...I've been thinking that we need to call the Fascists what they are, and more importantly, they should just own the name "Fascists" so at least we can have an intelligent conversation about it.

@nerdybutcute

What you say you're very important. Some of the people I see claiming to speak out against Nazis also join groups which target and exclude Jews. From a Jewish perspective, that's terrifying: people in my community, even in my neighborhood, see hate and intolerance coming at them from multiple groups.

@nerdybutcute Now I want a heartwarming montage of BJ Blazkowicz sowing community gardens, introducing introverts to the group, helping people move their furniture, etc. :3
