Thanks to @elfbiter I have discovered the ISO 3103 for brewing tea and it is the best thing

ISO 3103 - Wikipedia

"The protocol has been criticized for omitting any mention of prewarming the pot. Ireland was the only country to object, and objected on technical grounds."
HAHAHAHA
@aliettedb 6 minutes ! 😱
@LamSon clairement du thé à réveiller les morts
@aliettedb l'idée doit être d'extraire tous les tannins. En tous cas, ça a l'air d'être leur métrique de résultat
@aliettedb given i deal with ISO standards as part of my job, I find this delightful
IP over Avian Carriers - Wikipedia

@aliettedb @Princejvstin That one is an absolute treasure and delight.
@LisCarey @Princejvstin just the name, "IP over Avian Carriers", sends me into giggles
(I majored in Applied Maths which includes communication protocols)
@aliettedb @Princejvstin The name is...someone thought of this. It's perfect.
RFC-1149

April 28th, 2001 11 years ago, April 1st 1990, rfc 1149 was written. This rfc specifies a protocol for IP over avian carriers, CPIP (carrier pigeon internet protocol). In 11 years, noone has bother...

@aliettedb @Princejvstin My personal favourite has always been SNAil data transfer Protocol as detailed in this BoingBoing Post. (Link to original experiment is a dead asp page and doesn’t seem to have been archived.)

@aliettedb the takedown by the Royal society of Chemistry is very … British.
@aliettedb honestly dont know what i love most: that it got an Ig Nobel prize
or the sentence "Some would contend that oversteeping the tea is not a valid way to make meaningful sensory comparisons"
@ghosthermione there are so many good bits in there
@aliettedb the best part is definitely Ireland objecting on technical grounds because it doesn't mention prewarming the pot

@aliettedb @elfbiter this is very subtle.

In Europe, the English have a reputation for being tea drinkers, so now Europe has brought out an international standard covering the making and brewing of tea. Who says the EU has no sense of humour?

@peterbrown @aliettedb @elfbiter It was adapted from the British Standards Institute standard BS 6008:1980 though.
@HighlandLawyer @aliettedb @elfbiter wow!
I learn something new every day 🧐

@aliettedb @elfbiter good to know, thank you.

Today I also learned that the British Standards Institute has an unfortunate prefix to their standards codes.

@aliettedb You never watched Tom Scott make it? https://youtu.be/nAsrsMPftOI

@aliettedb @elfbiter I also like ISO 5218 "No significance is to be placed upon the fact that "Male" is coded "1" and "Female" is coded "2". This standard was developed based upon predominant practices of the countries involved and does not convey any meaning of importance, ranking or any other basis that could imply discrimination. ."
