Finished up watching the 2022 Fall Anime last night. This season I watched (and finished):

#MoreThanAMarriedCouple
#TheLittleLiesWeAllTell
#ShinobiNoIttoki
#ChainsawMan
#ReincarnatedAsASword
#DoItYourself
#LoveFlops
#BibliophilePrincess
#ImTheVillainessSoImTamingTheFinalBoss
#SpyXFamily
#RavenOfTheInnerPalace
#BocchiTheRock

Also watched, but still continuing on are:

#Idolish7
#PlayItCoolGuys
#BlueLock

I know I have at least one episode left of #ObeyMe

#Anime

There were several others that I tried but didn't get hooked enough on to keep watching in my busy schedule. I already watch a LOT. I'm going to try to finish up #Tsurune season 1 ahead of it starting up in January with a new season. Then I might try to lean into clearing some movies off my list.

I suppose I should also mention that partner and I watched the latest iteration of the reboot of #SaintSeiya last week.

He keeps saying we should rewatch the originals. I am not opposed, but that's a DVD thing, with a sub that was done by someone with a travel Japanese/English dictionary (and is forever referred to in our house as the "dingy stole" version because that was that black cloth translation).

@tryslora finally! Someone who watches as much as I do (or even more??) What were your standouts for the season? I was surprised to really enjoy I'm the Villainess.

@breezeholmfox I absolutely enjoyed the Villainess one, which I wasn't expecting at first. It was one that made time on the elliptical pass very quickly.

TBH, I really enjoyed everything on the list? The ones I don't enjoy get kicked after a couple episodes. I'm disappointed in the end of Little Lies but it holds a soft spot in my heart for being quirky. Love Flops was a surprise, and I loved it. DIY and Bocchi were standouts. I'm pleased Reincarnated is getting a 2nd season.

@tryslora DIY felt like this season's winner in the cozy category. I didn't actually start Love Flops, it didn't seem like it was going to be something I'd like, but maybe I'll give it a shot now

@breezeholmfox I started Love Flops because I'm a fool for a good meet ugly. For me, there were hints of something beyond the harem/ecci and I really liked where it went (unexpected, and then expected based on the twist) and how it turned out. It may not be for everyone.

I'm also a fool for wordplay, so the title makes me giggle after seeing the whole thing. It DOES lean into the ecci, for reasons that make a weird kind of sense in the end.

@tryslora I don't mind putting up with a bit of unnecessary ecci if there's something that goes beyond it. Actually that's how I felt about Call of the Night

@breezeholmfox Call of the Night was one I bounced out of because the ecci made me uncomfortable in the first episode (mostly due to age issues). :(

Love Flops had one age issue which made me uncomfy, but overall, it felt like... I struggled to explain it while it was airing. It felt like teen boy brain, and there ended up being a reason(ish) why it was there.

@tryslora yeah I was more uncomfortable with it until I realized that it's all a big metaphor for coming of age anyway (that and nothing actually happens except some biting and a couple of kisses, it's all innuendo)
@breezeholmfox For me it was just a bit too much for me to keep it on my too-long list that season (I drop things quickly, mostly because I still end up with so many shows each season). I'll make a note to maybe try it again some time, if I get time!
@tryslora I'll keep following to see what you make of this upcoming (busy!) season!

@breezeholmfox I'm really REALLY looking forward to the new season and hoping that some of the ones I'm most excited about turn out to be as good as I'm hoping.

It'll be nice to have folks to talk to about things. I have done a lot of screaming into the ether in the past.

@breezeholmfox DIY was truly a feel good show. So was Bocchi in the end, for me. I also slot Play It Cool, Guys into that feeling, because it's just 15 minutes of supportively adorable klutzes in my life each week.

@breezeholmfox I'm also very pleased to realize that Play It Cool, Guys has 12 more eps to go, and that Idolish7 went for a long season.

My taste is... uh... varied and quirky.

@tryslora would you recommend any of these in particular for someone who doesn't generally watch anime?
@hobiis @tryslora SpyxFamily is a good general one. I got so many people into the manga during 2020 lockdown lol

@hobiis do it yourself is a feel good anime about girls building things. Very slice of life and found family

Bocchi the rock has great music and is about a girl with social anxiety joining a band. Creative animation that really leans in to how anxiety feels.

Outside of anime what kinds of show themes do you like?

@tryslora those sound really great! My anime experience has been exclusively limited to fruits basket, sailor moon, cardcaptor sakura, and a handful of others from the early 00s, which I did love. Outside of anime I love classic romance tropes (enemies to lovers, identity porn, fake dating etc) and just plain girls being amazing

@hobiis Okay, definitely go for the two I mentioned. I'm looking forward to Buddy Daddies coming in the new season and hoping it's as good as it sounds (two hit men end up taking care of a little girl).

I loved Tiger & Bunny (it's all on Netflix--season 1, two movies, then season 2). Superheroes. Enemies to friends to best friends (not canon lovers, but they are so shippable and obviously adore each other).

Now I'm trying to think of all the things I want to recommend.

@hobiis oh and I don’t have the exact title but the yakuza babysitting one on Crunchyroll is wonderful. Gentle, family, violent, all the things at once.
@hobiis (not violent toward family… Yaluza are yakuza after all)
