@firstadopter the other side of the coin is that it's clear the proliferation of paywalled journalism has created a kind of "news gap" in the life of people who are not highly engaged in current affairs.

this gap has left a space for free news sites that all the conspiracy / alt-right / grifter "news" sites have gladly filled.
