The paradox here is that I also advocate that the photographer must "be present" in the work. You must put yourself in there as well.

Which is another way of saying, you must take sides. You must have an opinion. You cannot remain neutral, because this makes the image worthless. What do you want to say with your image?

So yes, you have to be present. But that doesn't mean it's "about you".

It's an interesting paradox that someone can both be totally self-centred and yet still not actually giving anything of themselves :)
