Ukraine needs ATACMS at least to end the war quickly; the White House views that as “escalatory.” But alternative is a war that drags on for years, and that could end with fascist Russia still in control of some of democratic Ukraine’s land - and people. https://politi.co/3I5fL5z
First Javelins. Then HIMARS. Now Patriot. What’s next?

The Ukrainians want to continue pressing forward on the battlefield this winter to regain lost territory. Their success hinges in large part on new weapons shipments.

@Euan_MacDonald Mmm. I may be wrong, but I think no one single weapon is going be just the thing, which then leads to victory.

The ultimate need, I would say, is for enough decent infantry and armour, combined with artillery and sufficient air power, to push Russian forces back.

This means lots of training for infantry, a supply of tanks and in particular aircraft.

UA right now AFAIK is militarily unbalanced, in that the air force is much weaker than the army.

@Euan_MacDonald

I feel that decades old memories of mighty Soviet Union, and the memories of duck and cover drills are guiding their actions today.

It will probably take another decade or so before the new generation of leaders come.
