Lets unpick this, then.
For a play on words to work, it needs a nugget of truth in it, that the pun subverts.
So for the other meaning of "owned" to work here, it would have to be the case that Marxists are *actually* owned in the traditional sense of the word.
Well they aren't, are they? The fact that Marxism has *something* to say about ownership doesn't just somehow carry the joke anyway.
