To be clear, it's ONLY right wing politicians who call asylum seekers "illegals." It's an effective way to dehumanize them. And people on the Right often point to migrants who first cross the border and only then request asylum as "doing it the wrong way." The fact is that if you have a legitimate asylum request, crossing the border first and then requesting asylum IS legally allowed – just as legal as applying at a port of entry.
