Phobos transit of Mars (2 craters inside Schiaparelli Crater) as seen by ESA Mars Express

Flickr

🧵 2/2 Phobos Transit of Mars

If you are wondering about the 2 craters and the sort of "canyon" visible in the animation above in this thread, those are part of the huge Schiaparelli crater as you can see in this map: https://maps.planet.fu-berlin.de/#map=7/1022596.77/-172694.9 from the Freie Universität of Berlin

To locate the craters I've used Celestia (https://celestia.space/) and the HiRISE map (https://www.uahirise.org/hiwish/browse)

I like the "Confirmed with Celestia" line. And the gif description too! 👍 !
@andrealuck did you find out which part of Mars in the background?
@sharponlooker it’s your turn hahaha but I have a theory :)
@sharponlooker does that look like Valles Marineris in the first frame?
@andrealuck Is that a ... river below? 😯
@65dBnoise my gut is telling me to search these 2 craters around Valles Marineris :)
@65dBnoise I was wrong but I found it! thanks to Celestia @sharponlooker
