Another entry from my Best Jazz of 2022 list:

Onyx, Sasha Berliner (self-released)

Rising star Sasha Berliner is part of the welcome vibraphone revival in jazz. She makes a strong statement with Onyx that she has her own voice, can write substantive compositions, and knows how to lead a band.

True Voice: A Conversation with Sasha Berliner — PostGenre

Onyx has long been a mysterious substance. Many ancient civilizations used the mineral in ornate jewelry but upheld the stone for more than its attractiveness. The Romans believed a necklace engraved with the image of Mars, their god of war, would provide courage to soldiers in battle. The Persians believed onyx could help with epilepsy. […]

@allenmichie She's awesome live too.
@jasonisaacdrums @allenmichie I can second that she is great live. In 2021, the Newport Jazz Festival had a “ Vibes Summit” which was her with Joel Ross and Warren Wolf all backed by the Emmet Cohen Trio. Excellent.
@PostGenre @allenmichie I saw her at Nublu in NYC a few weeks back, only about 15 people in the room unfortunately, but man did she kill. Played mostly music from the album with a couple of the same guys including Jaleel Shaw. Everybody was dialed in. I was hypnotized.

@allenmichie

Thank you for sharing. This is a new artist to me. A great album indeed. I must admit that I am partial to the vibraphone and the marimba.
