Why is it that when I tap to see who someone's following it shows hardly any (if any at all!) people? Checking mutual follows is the main way to build community in these places. Any tips?
@AlanBaxter people can choose to hide their follows/following for privacy/safety reasons, which would show you none. If someone has not hidden them and you look at who they are following or followed by when they are not a member of your instance, you'll only see the people on your instance listed unless you go to the direct link of their profile. This is how federation works and on the web, mastodon shows a message alerting you of such.
Favorites do not federate, so the only way to see every user who favorited a post is to look at the post's URL on the original instance. You can see all the boosters that way as well. From your own instance, you'll only be able to see the people your instance subscribes to in the boost list. Your instance ingests a copy of an external instances post, only the source instance post URL will have all the information.
