After only one year of Taliban rule, girls and women have almost disappeared from Afghan society. They are not allowed to travel, to work alone, to go to public parks, to talk or laugh in public, and they are not allowed to study and to go to school... Photo: Boushra Almutawakel

Not religion but extremism
@baarda
@JCF @Ponygirl @baarda All religions prop up the patriarchy. It's part of their business idea.

@LillyHerself
Indeed. But only for "modern"/actual religion.

Minorean religion was matriarcal with a Snake Goddess.
Their were a religion with paleolithic Venus (still used byba minority)
Some other from neolithic and still used by a minority is a kind of Earth/Nature religion (with Mother nature/Gaia/Demeter as Goddess)

In my opinion, again, religion is what you do with, if "you" are extremist in your religion (patriarcal or matriarcal) it will be destructive.
Talibans are extremists and patriarcal and the both combined are bad for humanity.

You are right Lilly, a religion should not be patriarcal but not matriarcal too, just respectfull of everthing and everryone without extremism.

Maybe like Boudhism, but I am not sure and Boudhism is not a religion but more a way of life.

@JCF @Ponygirl @baarda JCF, I think you are confusing 'animism' with religion. It's easy to do. Also, having goddesses is no guarantee that a religion is not patriarchal. Also remember that what we know of animism or religions from pre-historic times is strictly speaking guesswork.
