Gotta say, the actual UX here in the fediverse at least equal to Twitter now, and possibly better in some parts.

Takes a bit more effort to get set up here, and the comparison is only possible because pieces continue to off of twitter at an alarming rate, but a couple months ago I would not have expected have that view before year’s end.

In a hilarious moment of irony, my first couple attempts to post this failed and I screenshot it.

Even more amusing is that this would normally be a fairly serious flaw, were it not for the fact that I was completely unable to reply to any tweets on the bird all for like 6hrs yesterday.

@coloradotravis Thankfully, our server has only been down once over the past 2 months.
@chaos keep wondering if I should start one up
@coloradotravis @chaos I'd be interested to see how that goes just from an experimental perspective. One thing that could be an issue with Fediverse is your account is only on one server so what happens if it dies for good. Is there a way to migrate to another easily?

@eigenman @coloradotravis if your instance goes offline, your data is gone. You can export your data every 7 days (although, not your posts).

If you want to move to another server, you set up an account on the server you want to join and then tell it you want to bring over infor from original server. Then go to original server and confirm. Again, posts won't move.

@chaos @coloradotravis ahh thx. So I don't really care about my posts but I would want all my followers and all my follows to go to my new account on the other server. Is that something that can be done easily?
@eigenman @coloradotravis yeah. They pull over
@chaos @coloradotravis ahh ok cool. that's really the most important function to me. Even if the username isn't the same it wouldn't really matter as I'm still following the same ppl and my followers are still following me.
@eigenman @coloradotravis You can go ahead and setup a backup account now using your username. I'm not sure if this is discouraged or encouraged.
@chaos @coloradotravis yeah I was thinking of doing that but I didn't know if I needed to make several, or even which ones were safer for a backup etc... but I'm not that concerned. I'm not a big content creator, I just post and read, so doesn't really matter if names change later. Sounds like you can just move what you want when it happens which is fine
